Cell membrane

If a cell membrane were completely permeable to all substances, how would this affect the cell?Outline three examples, providing an explanation on the effect of the cell for each.

If a cell membrane were to be completely permable it would make a negative affect on the cell.

For example,

1. The nucleus would be able to leave, causing the 'brain' of the cell to not be present, therefore the cell would not be able to work properly.

2. Also, it would not be able to prevent unwanted material from entering the cell.

3. Would not be able to transport raw meterial into the cell.

If everything was able to pass through the cell membrane it would have a very negative effect on the cell. In saying so that means then nucleus would be able to leave the cell, inwhich the nucleus is the center of the cell and if that was able to leave then it would have a very negative inpact on the cell..also if everything was able to pass into the cell you would have problems with waste rproducts and other things which would also cause negative effects

Good work guys! Indeed, if the cell membrane were completely permeable, the cell would be negatively affected. For example, the nucleus, along with other important organelles could leave the cell - thus shutting down the functioning of the cell. Also, materials that were otheriwse prevented from entering the cell may now cross the cell. This may have a toxic effect on the cell.
