Keeping in mind the main purpose of the digestion system, consider the following scenario:

Individuals who have had much or even all of their digestive system damaged or diseased can still survive. How is this possible?

- The purpose of the digestive system is the converting or breaking down of large molecules into smaller ones. These molecules are used by the cell and pass through the membrane. There are two types:
Mechanical (physical break down)
Chemical ( molecular break down)

- A person can survive if part of their digestive system is removed by they can get IV into the blood stream. The molecules are already broken down.
